2:09 PM - big enough that I'll let you read it yourself without some cryptic joke...

big news!

This morning I ran 10 miles on my training run for the National AIDS Marathon. I'm a bit sore in places, and I'm probably going to be a bit more sore later, but I still don't think it will be as bad as last week, which was stealth agony.

Backtracking a little bit: I have officially decided to run a marathon to raise money for AIDS services and prevention. I was inspired by the stories of my sister, AJ, Wil Wheaton, and others who have done marathons, and when the opportunity arose to do something for a cause that is important to me, I jumped on it. This marathon is going to be pretty momentous for me. I've written a bit of a personal statement and you can check it out at the link below. I'll also probably be writing a bit about the process in this journal. Finally, since I am trying to raise a good deal of money in a short amount of time, please consider donating to the effort after you read my personal statement.

Tony's AIDS Marathon Page

The page can also be accessed at any time through the button that has magically appeared over on the left. Who knew when I did that reformat a couple of weeks ago that it would turn out to be so handy?

1:25 AM - I'll pass on the furry thongs, thanks

I have the power!!

People sometimes ask, "Do people ever tell you that you look like X celebrity?" and they never pick the cool ones, like Dean Cain or Orlando Bloom or Gambit from the X-Men. I always get people like "some guy from NSync" and Tiny Tim of "Tiptoe Through the Tulips" fame. In any case, I never get the same one twice, which means that I don't actually look like an existing celebrity, which of course clears my path to mega-stardom and ultra-fame. Um... yes.

Still, imagine my shock and surprise when my hairstylist asked, "Do people ever tell you that you look like Dolph Lundgren?"

!?!?!?!

Imagine my further shock and surprise when I found this image today:

Whoa! Dolph Lundgren had my hair way back in 1986!! Frightening. Does this mean that if I continue to bleach out my hair, I'll sprout muscles like that? And if it does, would I really want to be that topheavy?

I also had to post this image for several other reasons: Remember the good old days when someone held your feet to do sit-ups and you could totally cheat with your momentum and by using everything else -besides- your abs? Not any more. Thank you Joseph Pilates. Hrmph. Also imagine a language where you can fit a whole sentence worth of meaning into a single word: Hygienproblematiken! And finally, check out that buff frog! Whoa!

It's late and I'm going to bed now!

6:48 PM - and a major layout change

minor update

I'm mostly posting this because I finished updating the layout of this journal. Yay! Hopefully it looks cleaner and... well... better.

Also, I officially have my plane ticket, hotel, and class registration for the aerial dance festival in Colorado this August. Woohoo! I'm really excited.

2:41 PM - Pirates were fond of lard, which has a multitude of uses. I wonder if they spiked hair with it, too.

not quite herbal essences

Wow. What a weekend! I had a friend come for a quick 48 hour visit to San Francisco. I don't get to see her very often, so we made the most of it. Muir Woods, Golden Gate Bridge, Exploratorium, the Haight, the Mission, the Castro, all the best fabric stores, and all of my favorite food places in two days, including pumpkin pancakes, organic Japanese, yummy Eritrean, and... well... more. Our chances to see each other are very few and far between, so it was very touching to see her. I, of course, was campaigning to get her to move out here. Mwaha.

Her trip coincided with a Pirate Party in the Mission, related to an online Puzzle Pirate game. I haven't played it for very long, but it was very strange to see all these people from the internet suddenly in real life. Men were women, women were men, old people were young, and one guy even had his name floating over his head. I was known as "Shantybones" for the evening. Arrrr. My pirate costume was sorta last minute, and hopefully I'll have pictures soon or eventually. I sized my sash badly, and ended up sewing myself into it just so we could get out the door. I had to seam ripper myself free at the end of the night. We had a moment where my friend was coming out of the bathroom in her mermaid costume and I was trying to forcefeed myself into the sewing machine that was on my lap... The party never stops. I -did- get to see one person who I knew from a summer program 11 years ago in high school-- hopefully I'll get to see her again while she is still in town.

In other news, Mike and I took pictures of the new version of my Iori costume a week or two ago, and today the pictures debut on my website. Yay! In honor of that, I'm posting a special blog-only image from that same photo shoot, to prove that for every picture that makes it into a portfolio, there are tons that are silly or stupid or just plain ugly.

Iori does a Clairol ad

Anyway, go check out the new, improved Iori costume section. And leave me feedback! Especially you, Mochi, who has been slacking off! hehehehe

5:41 PM - my keyboard just started doing this weird thing with the shift button. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

invasion of the fish-people

Be careful what you wish for...

I found out last night that my friend Karen is coming out to San Francisco this weekend for a Pirate Party (Arrrr!) and some generic carousing. That meant I had 48 hours to make a pirate costume and prepare my quarters for her arrival... I -did- just buy the fabric I need, though, and the person cutting the fabric actually -asked- if I was making a pirate costume. Yay! I feel good about it, except... I only have tonight to do it.

Yipe. I mean.... Arrrrr...... yipe.

In other news, I officially registered for the aerialist festival in Colorado (Arrrrr! ...I mean, Yay!) and have a plane ticket, so now I just need a place to stay. And maybe some more/better trapeze clothes.

Isn't it awful when everything I want comes true? (*world peace* *world peace* *world peace*)

6:23 PM - no, I mean it. Arrrr.

Arrr!

It's a nice day for a white wedding.

I just got home from a photo shoot with Mike where we re-shot the Iori costume. I've always been a bit disappointed about how short the hair and the shirt are in my original version, so over the past several months I collected bits and pieces here and there, got an awesome wig, and it all culminated in today's shoot. I haven't seen any of the pictures yet, but if they look good, I'll remake the Iori page.

If that goes well, and I continue to shed fat, a Kuja shoot may be next. Criminy.

The rest of the weekend was pretty good. I spend some time sewing Iori (me? wait until the last minute?) and I also discovered that DVD's are cheap. I more than doubled the number of DVD movies I have, going from 2 up to 5. Nothing motivates me to sew like putting on a DVD of a movie that I like and have seen before. I'll have to update my Amazon.com wishlist (*shameless plug*).

Looking ahead, there may be many summer adventures. Right now I'm looking at a festival in Colorado for aerialists and circus artists, or an opportunity to dress like a pirate and say "Arrrr!"

Arrrr.
