Sunday, February 26, 200611:54 AM - I especially like the line about new-agersthe new funniest thing everMy co-worker Dave has been participating in SongFight, a site where you're given a title of a song and you have a week to write, produce, and upload your song to compete for votes against other songs with the same title. Luckily, they keep an archive. I suggest everyone go listen to MC Hawking perform What we need more of... is Science right this instant. I fell on the ground I was laughing so hard. Monday, February 20, 20061:30 PM - performance art for masochiststhe circus wayOver the past several weeks, the knuckle of my middle finger on my right hand has been a bit achy and sore. It's been on and off, and I get achy and sore in enough places that I didn't think too much about it. On Friday, I was doing some fabric-climbing in the studio, and I wanted to do one last climb before I put the fabric away. Of course, I reached out my hand to start the climb, and my finger hurt. A lot. Tons. All weekend it was swollen and sore, and it didn't want to grab things or... even get out of bed, really. I taped my finger to its neighbor for most of the weekend, and that's how I'm typing now. It's getting better slowly. I saw Serenity at the studio today, and she said that it's a common thing for aerialists to go through, and to keep strengthening the fingers, icing them, and resting them. Bill looked up from the student he was working with and asked, "Is that the finger separating thing? Ewww...." and shuddered. (Bill is a 6'4 African-American former Cirque du Soleil acrobat with a voice that easily fills an auditorium.) I came home and had an e-mail from Elsie. "When that has happened to me I found that I could work on it with no pain (trapeze and fabric) and it was only after that it hurt. Is this the same for you?" Because she expects to see me in class tomorrow.... and I'll be there. I'm reminded of the scene in the Lord of the Rings where Christopher Lee shouts, "You have elected the way of Pain!" and sends Ian McKellen hurtling towards the ceiling. (Sorry if my movie references are getting old... I only see a couple movies each year, so there's not a lot of variety there.) And now, back to healing. Tuesday, February 07, 20069:52 AM - flouncy omelette chimney-sweepWord DisassociationThere's actually not much to report. I entered an Icon Contest for Puzzle Pirates, and I am working on a different contest. I'm starting to work on my blindfolded piece for a performance we're putting together for March. I did 5 pull-ups on Thursday, which is more than I've ever done in my life, ever. I've been totally addicted to Neil Cicierega and his band Lemon Demon for about a week now. I suggest everyone go to his website and download the video for Word Disassociation... I really admire the magnitude of his creativity. And he's freaking 19. Cross your fingers for Shantybones in the Icon Contest.... The waiting is tearing me apart. |
