Friday, June 29, 200711:12 AM - pick your Poisontwo flavors of sillyStory A-- Two days ago, I decided to pick up some boxes at the storage unit and drop them off at the new apartment before going to work. I decided to have an early lunch of one gardenburger, so I toasted it and then headed out to the deck area. I closed the screen door behind me, ate the gardenburger, and enjoyed the view. When I tried to go back inside, I learned that the screen door is self-locking and that I had locked myself on the balcony. Who, I ask you, creates a self-locking screen door? I was incredulous. I kept trying to maneuver the door open, hoping that maybe the door had just gotten stuck on something. In fact, the door had gotten stuck on something: the latch on the door frame that made it a self-locking door. Eventually, that latch broke off and I was able to get the door open. The broken latch isn't a major loss in my opinion, since screen doors to a second floor balcony should not be self-locking. Story B-- As some of you may know, I recently received my first-ever iPod as a gift, which resulted in me putting my iTunes library on my work computer as well as my home computer. I enjoy listening to music while I am coding, especially so that I don't get distracted by other people's conversations and work. I also noticed that my Mac will automatically switch between my mute setting for no headphones and quiet volume setting for headphones attached. Today, when I attached the headphones, the volume switch did not happen, however, it was quite easy to set the volume to a level that was comfortable. Two songs later, I realized that I had plugged my earphones into the microphone jack instead of the headphone jack, so I was broadcasting my music to the whole office. No one said anything. Wednesday, June 20, 20073:12 PM - I may get a purple chaise lounge.happy birthday to me!It's been an unusual birthday. First... I am 30. Eep. Second, my housemate went to work this morning with my wallet in her purse, where we had hidden it during our run last night. So I had to pick it up from her work on my way in. This, by the way, is the first time I have ever come into the office on my birthday. Take note, world. As soon as I arrived at the office, I got a call saying that I got an amazing apartment in SF that I wanted. I was chosen for it, yay! I will take pictures and post them, but let me just say this: I am very excited to start thinking about real furniture. So. Happy. Over the weekend, Matt and Kaiann and I hosted AJ and Judy for a pre-birthday dinner. Judy brought and assembled this beautiful butter lettuce-pear-gorgonzola-walnut salad, laying each piece artfully on the plate. Yum! Kaiann and I baked a low-fat white cake with lemon filling and a fluffy white frosting, which Kaiann then sculpted into waves and peaks. Delicious! Also a strawberry-rhubarb cake worked its way into the weekend, which explains why I needed yesterday's run and its subsequent wallet-misplacement. Tonight I am scheduled for some yummy Minako action with Fenny. On a scale of one to ten, this birthday is going to get approximately 95 gold stars and two comets. Friday, June 15, 200712:32 PM - it just sounds so wrongpet peevesIt's not called a "laundry mat" kids. It's called a "laundromat." Thank you. Wednesday, June 13, 20074:33 PM - so predictableWhat I want more than anything...I just got a dry erase board for my cube. I'd really like a dark purple dry erase marker. That is all :-) Monday, June 11, 20074:15 PM - okay, I am a nerdblogging in circlesJust a quick note that this post was created in the Safari 3.0 for Windows beta. It's really exciting to see that someone finally brought proper font smoothing to Windows. (Tut tut, Microsoft defenders. I just turned on ClearType to compare... and ClearType is as much le crappe as I remembered.) The circular irony is that in order to test Safari for Windows, I had to load XP onto this Mac with Parallels. Yay for dual operating systems! Tuesday, June 05, 20079:53 PM - next up: cube decorfirst daysI just started a new job this week. Although I have a standing policy against blogging about work, I would just like to point out that the people are really nice and so far I am really comfortable. So hooray! Tonight I also made some strawberry Jell-O. There's always room. Give me a couple more weeks and the apartment hunt can begin in earnest. I finally feel like I am starting to craft myself a life out here, which is good because SF more than anywhere feels like home. |
