fleur-de-lys.netAJ is a good friend... She's also a prolific costumer. She introduced me to the art of cosplay, which basically means dressing up as obscure anime characters and running around with people who are doing the same thing. AJ was also a member of the One Ring Circus, an award-winning Lord of the Rings costuming group.dmk26.netThis site belongs to a good friend who recently developed (har har) an interest in photography. He's quite good, and has done quite a few of the costume photo shoots for this site. Check him out!gougeyoureyesout.comLauren is a very special person. Sometimes too special for her own good, which is part of what led her to flee the mainland and spend a few years living on Maui. She came back to San Francisco just in time for me to enjoy her company again, and then I left for Vermont. This site is her new blog, but it mostly talks about how strange people are.tatteredwings.netJudy is another outstanding costumer who's been working with AJ quite a bit in the past few years. In the right circles, her Gimli costume is legendary, but it's really just the tip of an iceberg. Sadly, despite their phenomenal costuming successes and celebrity hobnobbing, neither Judy nor AJ has succeeded in bringing Orlando Bloom home for me in a paper sack. I guess they'll just have to keep working at it.talkto.ccSome of you might remember CC from the Unicorn photo shoot that we did in 2004. Recently she packed off on an adventure to Japan, but luckily she's telling us all about it in her blog! It's a fun mix of astrology, pop culture, activism, and insights into the daily comings and goings of life in Japan. Send CC some love!divideby0.comOscar is another mover and shaker in the California cosplay circles. Not only does he make his own costumes, but he also is a moderator on one of the main community websites, which sometimes lands him in trouble. Oscar also keeps his blog on the front page of his site, which I haven't figured out how to handle.michaelperretta.comMike is a good friend from high school who surprised me by showing up in the Bay Area to pursue a Master's in animation. He's almost finished with his thesis project and his degree now. Mike also does web design, photography, and a bunch of other kinds of art. This site is relatively new: check him out!trapezetwins.comElsie and Serenity of Gemini Trapeze are, to my knowledge, the only people in the country who teach injury prevention for aerialists. They are former Cirque du Soleil performers, and they are incredible teachers and artists. Although they do workshops around the country, they are based in Brattleboro, Vermont. They recently lured me away from the Bay Area to come train with them.terrysendgraff.comTerry Sendgraff pretty much invented the idea of aerial dance from her studio in Berkeley. She has been teaching and performing as an aerialist since before I was born. Her classes have helped me learn to express creativity through movement and get in touch with the things I feel through my body. I can't say enough good things about her. Terry retired from teaching in the spring of 2005.cirque-eloize.comCirque Éloize may be the best circus I've ever seen. They are often compared to Cirque du Soleil, but it's a very different experience. Go see them if you can! My first trapeze teacher, Aimeé Hancock, now performs with Éloize.les7doigtsdelamain.com(Try typing that 10 times fast.) Les 7 Doigts de la Main is a group of 7 circus artists, all former Cirque du Soleil performers, who came together and created their own show. It's hard to describe how creative and fun and engaging this show is.... they just had their U.S. debut in San Francisco and they were incredible. Go see them if you can! Coincidentally, I took two classes with their trapeze artist, Shana Carroll.nimblearts.orgElsie and Serenity and Serenity's husband Bill have started a circus school called Nimble Arts here in Brattleboro. They've coaxed me away from my creature comforts in the San Francisco area, so I suppose their website is worth a look, eh?circuscenter.orgThe Circus Center is the school where I first studied trapeze. It's a neat place with an interesting history, plus they have connections to San Francisco's New Pickle Circus. They used to be called the "San Francisco School of Circus Arts," and I prefer that name, but it's not quite as handy for logos and links.peppersprayband.comPepperspray is a fantastic SF area band that features my favorite Princess Kennedy and several of her friends. They're always a good time, and when i saw them last, they had the crowd jumping and the wind blowing so that it rattled the trees. Quite an experience.
If you would like to have your link on this page, please go to the Contact page and leave me a message that reminds me about who you are and includes the appropriate link. It would really help if you are a friend or I know who you are.
Some people create snappy little advertising banners and I tried to use those for a while, but I found that the banner sizes aren't as standardized as they claim to be. I ended up making new banners for the sites that didn't have them, which was quite a bit of work, so I don't use banners on this site any more. If you are one of those people who insists on having banners for your own links section, and you would like one from me, drop me a line and I'll see if I can make one for you. |
